SwimSafer lessons in Singapore
Prepare your child for SwimSafer 2.0 stages with focused coaching on the skills each stage tests.
SwimSafer 2.0 is Singapore's national water safety programme, developed by the National Water Safety Council with Sport Singapore. It has six progressive stages, each covering both swimming and water-survival skills. Many parents use it as a clear way to track their child's progress.
The six SwimSafer stages
| Stage | Focus |
|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Water confidence and independence, safe entry and exit, basic water safety |
| Stage 2 | Sculling, surface dives, personal safety; goal of 25 m continuous swimming |
| Stage 3 | Stride-jump entry, underwater skills, swimming with a flotation device; goal of 50 m |
| Stage 4 (Bronze) | Stroke technique, breathing in deep water, throw rescues; goal of 100 m in a variety of strokes |
| Stage 5 (Silver) | Diving fundamentals, survival scenarios, efficient strokes over longer distances |
| Stage 6 (Gold) | Advanced survival and stroke proficiency over longer, timed distances |
Each stage takes roughly 12 hours of lesson time according to the official programme, and is assessed with an in-water test plus a water-safety theory quiz. For the official syllabus, see ActiveSG Circle.
What SwimSafer preparation lessons involve
Your coach works on the specific skills in your child's target stage: entries, sculling, survival floats, distance swimming and stroke technique. Children who are still building basic confidence should start with beginner lessons first.
Assessment
Passing depends on your child showing every required skill on the day. No coach can guarantee a result, but regular lessons and practice of the stage checklist give the best chance. More background on SwimSafer 2.0 is on swim2u.sg.
Formats and fees
SwimSafer preparation runs within the kids programme, 1-to-1 or in small groups. See lesson fees.
